In consultation with the Mardak consultant this is usually when existing data can be tidied up, it is a convenient time to remove those stubborn transactions in your old system that cannot be removed.
We utilise Microsoft Office suite and ODBC technologies to facilitate the extract of data from any number of legacy applications. We have developed functionality in-house to manipulate the data into an XML format for direct import into the MCA database. Where ODBC is not an option we have tools to extract data from text documents such as reports from the source application.
Data migration is completed in two areas:
- Static Data
- Transactions
1. Static
Static Data includes such items as Supplier, Customer & Subcontractor names & addresses, individual contracts together with cost & nominal codes. Each of the modules can be migrated or loaded manually on a ‘pick & mix’ basis.
To make sure the ‘Go Live’ is smooth we will usually undertake a test conversion and allow the customers to verify what we doing is the correct way forward. This process is usually instrumental in confirming to the customer that the whole process is going to work.
2. Transactions
Transactions are the individual invoices or certificates in the supplier and subcontract ledger. We would normally convert the outstanding transactions. In the Contract Ledger this would include all cost transactions. In the Nominal Ledger we would normally convert the current year’s transaction.
